Objective: SWBAT evaluate Elie’s rejection of his religious beliefs.

Do-Now: Choose a holiday that is widely celebrated.  Why is this day celebrated?  What types of activities do people participate in on this day?  What else happens on this day?

Today: 1) Class will review Sections 1-4.  How has Elie’s character changed throughout these sections?  What caused this change in him?

2) Class will begin reading Section 5.  What is the significance of the Jewish holidays?  Why does Elie refuse to celebrate them?

3) Students will begin answering questions for Section 5.

Exit Slip: What has caused Elie and so many others to reject their religious beliefs?

Homework: Finish reading Section 5 of "Night" and complete the review questions.
