Objective: SWBAT describe the significance of Assef’s gift to Amir.  SWBAT describe the dramatic irony in the end of Chapter #8.

Do-Now: Amir is about to turn 13.  Recall your thirteenth birthday.  How did you change when you became a teenager?  Explain.

Today: 1) Class will continue reading Chapter #8.  Why is Amir’s thirteenth birthday significant to him?

2) Class will finish reading Chapter #8.  What is the significance of Assef’s gift to Amir?  How does this scene represent situational irony?

3) Class will finish questions for Chapter #8.

Exit Slip: Describe the dramatic irony which occurs at the end of Chapter #8 during Amir’s birthday party.  What affect does this have on you as a reader?
